Extension works included a single storey industrial building with a partial intermediate mezzanine level. The new building includes operational and office space to allow the business to expand. This project achieved the first and, as at September 2009, only BREEAM Industrial ‘Excellent’ rating in Cornwall. The design commitments made at the design stage were ratified through the Post Construction Review (PCR) assessment.
Sustainability Objectives
In order to secure funding from the South West Regional Development Agency, and as a reflection of Watson Marlow’s commitment to high standards of performance the objective of achieving a BREEAM Industrial ‘Excellent’ rating was set. Key design aspects that contributed to the high BREEAM rating included rainwater harvesting, high levels of insulation, high levels of re-use of on-site materials, high levels of natural light, an automatic water leak detection system, and enhancement and protection of the ecological value of the site.
